Liberty breakthrough

Theres only one word I can say to explain how I feel... Gloating! I cant wipe the smile off my face right now!
I've been slowly doing more liberty with Bella, but when she left me I could never get her back again.. and I knew it was something I was doing!! It sure was because today sue helped me a bit in the round pen getting my body in a better position. Before the way I was, I was basically just driving her forward and she was blowing me off! Well I got myself organized and SHE CAME TO ME!!!!! The first time she ever has after leaving me! So I would start to go through the games(friendly and driving) and if she left I would start all over again. Each time it would take less and less for her to come back to me and then finally she stuck to me and we walked stopped and backed up! And all of this was one with a trailer entering the yard, and a new horse coming outside the round pen.
Today we also accomplished the tire, ball(on back, bouncing around, pushing, bouncing against), tarp, logs, backing up better and through things and probably more! There was SOOO many things we did today and she was amazing!
She is my dream horse even if it's taking me FOREVER to realize this!
Then to end the day off we had a mini tournament it went as follows!
1. Back up while weaving through 5 cones
2. Sit in a chair back your horse up send them out for a circle bring back
3. Stand in a circle and put the massive soccer ball on your horses back
4. Send over a tarp
5. Put a Hula Hoop over your horses head and spin it
6. 1/2 Back up a figure Eight pattern using barrels
7. Send over cavelleties
8. Walk through an 'L' shape then back up through it
9. Jump barrels laying down
10. Side pass Mini Barrels laying down while in Zone 1
11. Put one front and one back on two diffent mats on the ground at the same time
12. Finish

I DID IT!!!

I've been pretty sick lately Sunday I got out of bed only for a friend to give my horse 1 of the 2 shots she needed.
Today was the day to give her the second one, I've neveer really given a shot before. I've practised sticking them in there butt but never given on in the neck. But I've seen it MANY times, and since Im feeling betterish today I decided that I would go out and give it to her.
I was freaking out inside... Because I was scared I was going to hurt her more then I wanted or Kill her.
Well My lovely LBI Mare was with me today and slept as I stood there telling myself I could do it.. I stood there for probably half an hour
But finally I went for it but I pulled it out right away because I scared myself, she just kept standing there as I rubbed her.
I did it again and got half of the injection in and Im not sure what happend but I took it out again... SO I rubbed her again and I guess third times a charm cuz ther other half went in and she jumped a bit so I left it in for about 5 secounds untill she relaxed pulled it out and rubbed her and gave her some grain!

To know that I can give her a needle myself if I ever needed to makes me feel much better.

Just goes to show Prior and Proper preperation makes a big big difference!
ugh.. I love my horse to death!

Good day

I stayed on :P haha
So kim and nicole were heading to the ring so I joined them to ride and see how bella would do. I had the horsemans reins and bareback pad and off we went. Because of some of her past episodes of 'attacking' passing horses I just walked for a bit smacked her once when i could feel her shift towards fonzie but that was it! They were loping by, we were walk, trotting and canter and NOTHING!!! I was so happy. I dont know what changed her from doing this, Maybe me being more of her leader now then I was before??? I dunno!
When they left, I asked her for another canter and I was going to be done but she exploded did a 180 and started to run! YIKES! She went a bit right brained on me. I softly turned her into a circle and brought her down to a stop and waited until she relaxed and asked for a walk. She started to trot and i could feel she was a bit tense. So I started playing the friendly game in zone 1 with the bit which we were taught to do at the clinic. I though this would make me completly relaxed get her to relax and in rythem together and it sure did. we walked a lap switched direction and I started to ask her to strech her head down and back out and she seemed to know EXACTLY what I wanted and did it and started to blow out and I could feel her whole body relax.
so I asked her to trot while still playing the friendly game and started to ask her to put her head down and again she relaxed herself not as much as the walk but I still felt it!

Now I cannot WAIT for the parelli clinic!

Relationship underway

So since i've moved my bella to her new home, I was expecting catching issues Like I had before when my friend owned her and I worked with her sometimes.
I think with the new place she was nervous and I was the only familar thing to her and we had a bit of a relationship started.
We started off with no catching issues as she was often around the barn so I didnt have to go get her and she was curious to what I was doing.
But Today when I was walking home I was talking to the dog to get it to stop barking, and Bella was in field eating when she heard me she ran to the gate neighing at me. :/
So apparently now she happy when I come and doesnt want me to leave even if I work her for 3 and 1/2 hours...

Our trip

Leslies was interesting and fun all at the same time. And yes she did a lil rear and bucked once, but she was better then Indy... who was bucking trying to take off jumping over things.. Which is NOT the horse he was before.
I was so proud of her, she went over the bridge, big mud puddles, throught open feilds into little trails. She went first, middle and last. We went ahead of the ground, and way behind the group, walk, trot, lope. She experianced SSOO MUCH that she has never even seen before and she took it all instride. She checked EVERYTHING out and was totally left brain about it! she only jumped once!
My one problem with bella, is I dont trust my relationship with her to just let her go sometimes. I know I've held her back when I shouldnt have because I just dont trust that shes not going to take off or try and buck me off or something like that. It's lack of confidence in myself that I have and I bring it into our relationship. It happened with Indy to and it took me quite awhile to trust him to think about going bridleless and I worked alot of building that confidence in myself that I could feel safe doing it. But I just dont have it with her and I feel bad because I know I do things wrong when I hold her back. Sometimes I ask her to go and stop at the same time and i correct it when I realize but i dont always realize quickly.

I really appriciate what parelli has taught me, everytime bella blows my mind away or even does something little like check something out, I thank parelli! I've build a partnership with a horse to beable to get on its back and ask it to do things, where she could easily kill me. But instead she lets me know when I do things wrong so I can correct them and she trys to do the right thing all the time. I havent killed the curiousity out of her, and I let her think for herself.. and when I look at her and i look at a show horse.. Im disgusted that all those other people havent realized what they are doing!
Im so happy that I was brought into the parelli world at such a young age, sure it wasnt the easiest thing to understand at times, but Its WAY more then worth it. Which makes me want to become an instructor more then anything and to use this knowledge and gain so much more to share it with anyone is a dream.

I got help measuring her as it's not the easiest thing to do with those stupid tapes, and shes so curious to what you are doing and if she can stick it in her mouth she will. She happens to be 16.1 at her wither area and her butts at 16.2 I wonder when shes going to stop growing... Shes too tall as it is! haha
I laughed when I went and stood beside Indy I was like your this SHORT! haha He didn't feel that short when I worked with him at all.. but after working with bella and getting used to her, he's deffinatly just a little boy!

The thinkers..

The other day I asked her to sidepass using the rail, which had electric wire on the other side.. and bella figured out that yes the wire was hot when she didnt want to go sideways and went forward even though she was pushing through my pressure. So yesterday we went by that spot and she scared herself half to death and went flying so many directions I cannot remember them all, so I jumped off and let her calm down and let her figure out that she wasnt going to die everytime she went by that part of the rail.
I was really proud of myself for getting off and working things through on the ground, I thought I was confident but that made me feel even more confident that in a sticky situation I can get off without thinking about it.
Today i did abunch of things in the ring really worked on our circling game, and I got her to do a full trotting lap without having to get her going again, and I got it both directions.
I saddled her up and rode around and got a REALLY nice lope from her. Everything was going well so we went for a ride on a trail and then I was going to bring the saddle and such to my house(another story) So she was a bit worried at first, but I always walk the first bit untill shes nice a relaxed and confident. So after a bit I got on and I seen a trail so I went down it to see where it led, and she started wanting to head back but I got her to take a few steps and stand still and kept going like that well it lead to behind kims place and we I went to turn around she was NOPE, so I out persisted her and we turned around and then fonzie started calling to her and she got a bit anxious. So I asked her to stop so she could relax but instead she starts rearing... I took my feet out of the stirrups incase I need to get off now, and I got her to stand for one second then we went forward again. And I kept repeating getting her to stand for a bit longer each time. we were almost back on the road and she started rearing again and she was getting pretty high with them and cranky about it. I got a bit nervous so I got off and worked with her. She was even doing it on the ground.
So then I decided to just walk and work on things as they came about walking to my house. I got to the corner and she squeeled and threw herself in the air half rearing half bucking. She did this about 2 times and I went into a driveway of a cabin and let her figure this out and just protected my space. Then I decided screw this were going back. I checked her feet nothing was in them thinking maybe she got a rock in them but nope. So I headed down and she did it again and after that she was fine...
Ugh she keeps my brain going thats for sure! Its not one thing its another, and shes NEVER done this in the past almost 2 years I've known and worked with her.. so I dont know what it was

I got bored of playing in the ring, I wanted something differnt and My dad got home today so i decided I'd saddle bella up play with her a bit to warm up and walk her to my house! Our first obstacle was that the road wasnts a black hole that was going to eat her, Did a bunch of playing around and in no time she was on it and comfortable even with cars passing so we started to journey down the road.
We passed by scary large rocks, guard rails, bright yelloe signs, puddles, snowbanks before we go to my house. I played with all the items, with a fun game called Touch It!
She was awesome, never jumped once just observed, snorted and was aware but not on edge. When we go to my house my dog was very nerous and protective with this BIG thing in the yard! But Bella was totally fine with my dog and was interested in the lake and the people that were on it, oh and FOOD, she thought she deserved more oats!
On our way home we played more with some objects, and when we got around the big corner I went a bit down another road and got on and road back the rest of the way and everything was perfectly fine, she was even coming off of the adreniline that she had, level headed and nicely relaxed.

She never fails to make me so proud of her each and everytime! This was a big step for her, shes never been on a trail ride before and never taken away like she was from another horse to go somewhere else! She handled it awesomely!

Coming along

I didnt get to go out yesterday as i had to work! :/ But the day before I had a really good time, she comming running to the gate when I call her name, and its awesome. I must be doing somthing right because before she had a catching problem.
i rode her a bit just working on transitions along the rail, Shes got a good back up going on her and Im quite impressed. I also worked on turning on the forehand and on the haunches. She had quite a bit of energy, but at the same time was still hard to motivate!

offended or bitchy??

So Im still trying to figure out if I offended her or she was just being bitchy.. But the more Im thinking about it the more I think I offended her. Once it happend though I changed my approach to things and it didnt happen again and she seemed happier so I made the right change.
I rode a bit today just working one going, and stoping with my body and if she didnt then driving her head.

The ring has awesome potential for a great video in the future! Espacially a fun freestyle one, enter/exiting my jumping in/out of the ring!! :D

Day One

Went to see her straight after I got home today... SHE RAN!!!!! haha I've never seen her go faster then a lope for a few steps, but she was running not galloping but running atleast!
So today I just went into the ring and played around, she was being quite dominant So I played with her untill I felt I had her focus and I was the leader. And then I fed her a handful of grain and went home. It was quite cold and when you have to walk 10min each way and your all bundled trying to stay warm your wearing some clothes! lol
Heres to a start of a healthier lifestyle, walking to see your horse, running around with your horse, riding, walking home.
Tommarow will be another adventure again

She Home

Bella took the trip to her new home, and number one thing we need to work on is trailers. I mean yesterday wasn't very nice to her sperating her from her lil buddy while shes in the trailer but she was basically freaking once I left she was NOT happy, she was scared and nervous and probably everything else. I dont blame her though Last time she was trailered she was by herself because she was brought to a strange place where her Best friend went to rest in heaven.
She was really good when we got her there though so its good to know.
I went to see her again that night and gave her a bit of grain, she was calling to me when she heard me walking and when I was leaving.

Packing

Today was a day of packing everything up that I want to be at the boarding place. I still havent realized that she's actually MINE.. No one else has any say about her and me together. Were a partnership that can't be broken, I dont have to say bye to because of some stupid reason, I dont have someone else messing her up, Nuttin is in our way!
Not sure when she's moving, Cuz Sundays not a good day for the driver to bring her over. So I will keep you updated and let you know what goes down!

I had my interview today for my co-op placement, Im excited to learn a bunch of new things. My placement is at a vet clinic, that also does grooming and boarding.

But Im really tired so I shall sleep for as long as I can get myself to tonight and write again soon I hope

Meet: Bella

Bella is a 4 Year old X-Breed, Blue Roan Mare, bought from an auction in manitoba and brought to NW Ontario only to been seen in a field by my Best Friend who feel in love and bought her as a 2 year old.
She became my side project when she was 3, where I started playing the games with her and getting her through the basics. Once through them I 'broke her out', where I learnt so much! I had about 5 rides on her and she was put in the pasture for awhile as I was really focusing on Indy and my friend on her main horse. Then I started playing with her again and riding her last fall, and realized she really had matured since I last rode her and I I furthered her training. In September I took her to her first show, and sadly we both lost our dearest friend 'Lucky'(RIP, we really miss you down here) We still entered the classes and proceded to win High Point Walk/Trot.
After that I had an attachment to her but I didnt have the heart to go out and work with her, as I had a pain in my heart. Watching a horse tragically die is one thing, but loving that horse like he was your own and see that is a whole new thing that still gets to me.
X-mass '09 my parents agreed to let me have a horse and after searching thousands of horses, I discovered that no horse was going to come between the bond me and Bella had, and it was then I decided that she was the one I wanted.
On feb 16th, I had the best night of my life and she was involved and it made me realize how much of the right choice I had made! Now in three days shes moving to her new boarding place, and I will be visiting her 5 times a week, and I will be blogging her on our Future adventures!
She's the horse who's comming with me to the Parelli Center... Stay tuned to watch it unfold, the ups, downs and everything inbetween
Keep it Savvy,
Rach

Let the New Adventure start!!!

So on X-mass my rents finally caved in and decided that I could infact get a horse. The search started, though bella was in the back of my head always. After find no horse close enough that I would consider to go and see, I was starting to lose some hope but Bella was still in my mind. I went to a parelli porn night and was asked 'why dont you want bella?', and it clued in there was infact nothing i could emediatly think of.
So I decided that I was getting Bella, It was time to figure out the rest boarding, money ect.
Tonight I went and talked to the person who agreeded to let me board, and it's only a ten minute walk from my house!
Now in 3 days she will be at her new home! I don't know how to feel, Im excited, nervous and some other feelings I just cannot explain whats going through me right now.
So from now on I'm going to write about my experiances with her and life from now untill I am an instructor, and then after that I think I will probably stop because I will be having 100% devoting to the programe and will be with horses and like minded people as much as I can, and not have to be at home bored when its dark out!
So stay tuned and stay Savvy!,
Rach
